SEO as a branding tool

I’ve been chatting it up with some of the local SEO companies regarding SEO, how it works, strategy, and usage.

99% explain SEO (search engine optimization) as a process of tweaking a website to win top placement on the major search engines. However, more and more I hear that SEO is being utilized for brand management.

It all starts with negative content being indexed and positioned for a brand name.  For example, if you Google “zero calorie coca cola” and there is a website that shows up within the top 10 positions that speaks negatively about the product, you would use the power of SEO to either execute a press release or build a page and optimize it to push these negative posts down as far as possible.
