Jude Law Hits Photographer in Face in London

Jude LawIt seems that Jude Law may be in trouble with the police.  He is definitely in trouble with Harsha Gopal, a photographer that is filing an official complaint against him for hitting her in the head in London.  She filed the complaint at the Charing Cross police station according to the London Paper.

“I felt his hand come across my face,” she says. “It was really loud – there was a massive thud and my face is still stinging.”  She is accusing Law, 36, of hitting her in the face after she snapped pix of him outside a restaurant in Mayfair on Wednesday.

Unfortunately, for the “Alfie” star, fellow photogs snapped incriminating images that show the irate-looking actor baring his teeth as his hand makes contact with Gopal’s head.  The shocking pix were plastered across some English tabloid covers.  That night, fellow shutterbugs surrounded the star outside of the Wyndham Theatre in Convent Garden.

“When Jude left the theater photographers started booing and hissing at him, holding up newspapers with pictures of Jude and Harsha on the front page,” one witness tells PerezHilton.com. “There were a few who wanted to stand up to Jude – they were demanding he apologize.”

Law insists he already did, and that the accident has been blown out of proportion.  Law’s lawyer, Graham Shear, released a statement calling the claims “nonsense.”

“[Wednesday] night’s incident was an accident,” wrote Shear. “Jude was blinded by the camera flashes when he left the restaurant, raised his hand to shield himself and inadvertently struck somebody standing very close. He apologized and left. Pictures of this sort can often be misleading.”

The actor had another run-in with paparazzi snappers back in 2007, when he was arrested on suspicion of causing bodily harm after trying to yank a camera from a photographer’s hands outside of his home in London. He was released without being charged.

For those a paparazzi who get themselves into trouble . . . Plastic Surgery is the art of improving one’s appearance with the help of Jude Law 2science and medicine. A good Dothan Alabama plastic surgeon must not only be a good student of science and the wisdom of life, but also possess an artistic eye, the skills, and craftsmanship that allow the best possible care for his patients. This applies equally to both reconstructive and cosmetic surgery.  Dothan plastic surgeons are all about making a person whole in a way that is visibly apparent first to oneself in a mirror, then to the rest of the world.

British actor Jude Law has denied punching a female photographer during an evening out in London, insisting the incident was an “accident.”  The Alfie star was surrounded by snappers as he exited Automat nightclub in the early hours of Thursday morning.  He was accused of hitting an unnamed woman photographer on the head and slapping her in the face as she tried to take his picture.  But the star insists he was blinded by camera flashes and didn’t mean to strike the female with his flailing arm.

A statement from his lawyer, Graham Shear, reads, “This is all nonsense. Last night’s incident was an accident. Jude was blinded by the camera flashes when he left the restaurant, raised his hand to shield himself and inadvertently struck somebody standing very close.  He apologized and left. Pictures of this sort can often be misleading.”

Law was previously accused of assaulting a paparazzi photographer in 2007 – he was arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm after attempting to grab a camera outside his London home. He was later released without charge.

Law is the latest in a long line of celebrities who have endured scuffles with the paparazzi. Lily Allen was cautioned by the police in 2009 for assaulting a snapper outside her home, and the incident later caused her problems in obtaining a U.S. work visa.  In March this year she was granted a court order banning the paparazzi from getting too close following another scuffle with the press.

And rapper Kanye West twice fell afoul of the law when he tussled with photographers at LAX airport, Los Angeles in September 2008 and in Newcastle, north England in November 2008.

My Take: I can actually see both sides of this coin.  People want to know what their idols are doing, good or bad.  However, those idols also deserve their own privacy.  When that privacy is invaded, they get just a little bit irate.  The way the paparazzi swarm around them is just a little bit too much.

People can be very fanatical about their idols and will go to places where they can download movies free just to see them.  Some people will get movie downloads repeatedly of one particular actor or actress because they are fanatical.  Paparazzi’s can be just as fanatical as fans.  I understand that some paparazzi actually go so far as breaking into homes of famous people to get their photographs.  This I believe is wrong.

Some fans even will make a DVD copy of a movie and then put the original a way to keep it safe.  LA music CD duplication is on the rise for fans of Michael Jackson even.  The reason is that they want their original CD to remain intact.  The lengths that fans go to, to get information about their idols and to preserve the things their idols make, both music and movies, is amazing.

However, I believe that every country should do its best to put in some kind of regulation or law that controls the paparazzi to some extent while preserving the freedom of the press.  This is going to be an almost impossible task.

Heat Wave in Southern California Brings High Surf

Surf 3The Southland’s coastline so a moderate swell up of the central South Pacific, along with strong rip currents and some possible coastal flooding according to forecasters.  According to the National Weather Service, a slight chance of shower or thunderstorm activity will come with an infusion of mid-level moisture in the mountains of Ventura County, the antelope Valley and the mountains of Los Angeles County except for them Santa Monica range.

The region’s heat wave, meanwhile, will ease slightly — producing near-normal conditions — but strong high pressure over the Four Corners region is pushing westward, which will produce a return to high, above-normal temperatures, according to the NWS.  The heat wave will last until at least mid-week, July 29, with the hottest days expected Monday and Tuesday, NWS forecasters said.

The NWS forecast highs of 74 today, July 24, in Avalon, Newport Beach and at LAX; 82 in Long Beach; 83 in downtown L.A.; 84 on Mount Wilson; 86 in Anaheim; 88 in San Gabriel and Burbank; 89 in Pasadena; 95 in Woodland Hills; 97 in Newhall; and 102 in Palmdale and Lancaster.  Temperatures are forecast to rise a few degrees starting Saturday and revert to roughly today’s levels next Friday.

“The heat wave could pose health hazards for anyone outdoors, especially for the elderly, small children and pets,” an NWS advisory said. “If you plan on being outdoors, remember to remain hydrated by drinking plenty of water, wear loose-fitting clothing and a halt, and remain in the shade or indoors as much as possible.

“Never leave children or pets in cars with the windows up or cracked during the day, even for a very short time, as temperatures can quickly reach lethal levels.”DN24-SURF-MB5

Along the coast, a high surf advisory issued by the NWS will be in effect until 10 p.m. Saturday, July 25, in Ventura, Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego counties.  Also in effect, until 10 p.m. Saturday, is a coastal flood advisory along the Orange County Coast, and NWS forecasters said that minor coastal flooding was possible over low-lying, south-facing beaches in Los Angeles and Ventura counties.

The high surf was blamed on a “moderate” swell out of the central South Pacific. Forecasters said it would produce surf of between 4-6 feet, with maximum sets of up to 8 feet.

The NWS advisory also cautioned of high tides and high surf that could bring minor coastal flooding of exposed low-lying areas and minor beach erosion.  They also warned those planning to swim in the ocean that conditions may be dangerous and they should remain close to a lifeguard station in case of a problem.

My Take: I do not feel sorry for Southern California in the heat wave.  I do sympathize with those that are in the areas it may be flooded because that is not fun.  As for the heat wave, I say “Poor Southern California”!  They think 90° is hot?  Why do they not try coming to Arizona during the summertime?  It only gets between 100°-115° in the summertime.  It is really nice, NOT!

Of course, there is one difference between Southern California and Phoenix Arizona and that is the humidity.  Arizona only gets the humidity during the monsoon season when the rains are supposed to be here.  It seems like most of the time we get lots the humidity in very little rain, at least in Phoenix.

This is the place for you do not want to be a firefighter wearing Flame Resistant Clothing in the summertime.  Flame resistant coveralls may be great when you are fighting a fire, but not in 115° heat on top of it.  During the summertime, firefighters would prefer being at Big Surf and surfing at on Arizona’s own man-made waves.

TV goes to Comic-Con

ENTERTAINMENT-US-COMICCONBecause the annual fan convention, Comic-Con, features a greater number series each summer, TV studios had a strong appearance at the convention issue.  The 39th annual convention in San Diego was crowded on July 23 at its opening.

Next month’s lineup at the San Diego confab includes a few titles beyond the usual sci-fi and fantasy genres. Procedurals such as Fox’s “Bones” and USA’s “Burn Notice,” Fox’s musical “Glee” and Discovery’s “MythBusters” are in the mix.  Warner Bros. TV is bringing 11 shows to the event, the most the studio has featured.

“Comic-Con is the one place where Warner Bros. cross-divisionally presents a face to the consumer,” said Lisa Gregorian, the studio’s executive vp marketing.  One returning WBTV program is CBS’ “The Big Bang Theory,” which the studio brought to the event for the first time last year. Most sitcoms would not be a good fit for the Comic-Con crowd, but the geek-friendly “Big Bang” drew an enthusiastic response. The studio hopes to make a panel for the show a regular event, particularly after its ratings surged last fall.

When selecting programs for Comic-Con, Gregorian said any show with a mythology automatically belongs, and even genre series not premiering until midseason should screen.

“Our philosophy is that if it’s ready, and it’s great, and you’re not making a lot of changes to it, you should show it to the fans,” said Gregorian, whose midseason program “Human Target” will be shown.

ABC Studios is hosting at least seven panels, including one for the final season of ABC’s “Lost,” credited as the first TV show to launch at Comic-Con.  ABC takes a different approach to its “Lost” panel. Instead of simply screening footage and answering questions, the event is a carefully planned production that typically includes specifically shot footage and surprise guests.

“We’ve been working on the ‘Lost’ panel for literally months,” said Mike Benson, executive vp marketing at ABC Entertainment. “We want theComic-Con 2 audience to experience ‘Lost’ in a fully entertaining way.”  This year, ABC is extending that approach to panels for its new dramas “V” and “Flash Forward.”

“We don’t like to just stick people on a panel and have them answer questions,” Benson said. “We feel like we have to do more for the audience than just promote the show. By having that experience, it gets them talking about the panel more.”

20th TV is offering about nine panels, including those for Fox’s new animated comedy “The Cleveland Show” and the newly revived “Futurama.”

NBC Universal has at least eight programs, but most are for Sci Fi Channel and USA, with the studio planning only a “Heroes” panel for NBC. (”Chuck,” produced by WBTV, also will have a panel.) The studio’s apocalyptic midseason drama “Day One” will not be shown — an NBC Universal spokesperson said it is “too early” — but there will be some buzz-building marketing.

One network, G4, used Comic-Con itself as programming.  It was billed as the first televised panel in the event’s history.  A two-hour “Star Wars Spectacular” was broadcasted from Comic-Con.  The event was hosted by Olivia Munn and Kevin Pereira.  It included a table reading of a new “Clone Wars” script.  Star Wars fans that attended the convention were ecstatic with the panel.

My Take: When I lived in San Diego, I attended the Comic-Con every year without fail.  It is one of the most enjoyable and fun events anyone could attend.  The personnel that run the convention are helpful and willing to assist you in any way.  There are many handicapped people that attend the convention, like myself, that need assistance getting around.  This is how I know how helpful they are.

I have been privileged to meet such people as Julie Newmar, Spiderman and even Darth Vader.  Some of the vendors at the convention are absolutely amazing.  You can find some of the most beautiful hand carved wood pendants depicting just about anything at the convention.  I saw the most beautiful fight necklace made out of pewter and rubies that was beyond my pocketbook and yet I wanted it.

Vendors also have no problem with credit card processing.  Most of them have credit card terminals at their table for the convenience of the conventioneers.  However, they will also accept cash.  If I would have had a credit card, it would have been maxed out.  There is that much stuff for sale at the convention..  I remember one vendor that specialized in invitations and announcements.  Imagine marriage announcements with the theme of “The Matrix” or “Star Wars”.  Or what about a birth announcement in the theme of the “Little Mermaid”?

The last time I attended, they even had someone there from an online casino.  They really did not have anything to sell but they did give you information on online casino gaming and how you could win.  It amazes me the things that you can find at Comic-Con convention.  Many people think of it as a sci-fi fantasy convention and nothing more.  However, like many things in life, you need to look below the surface to see what is real.
